Christmas and HVAC: Safety Tips
Christmas is here! It is a favorite time for most of us to decorate our homes with garlands and fresh trees. It is also a time of year when the days and nights are cold. Therefore, ensure that your HVAC system works in top shape to keep your home warm and safe for the holidays.
Don’t cover your air vents
Decorations and Christmas trees can block your airflow and increase your electricity bill when placed near or in front of your vents. Be sure your vent is free of these items.
Don’t cover your thermostat
You might want to cover the thermostat with decorations this year, but it is not a wise idea. Hiding the thermostat will make it difficult for the device to read the temperature accurately. Your heating system will not perform as well as it should.
Check the outdoor unit
The outdoor unit still needs proper care and maintenance to work regularly. Inspect your outdoor unit and its components for possible icing, and clear debris.
Keep flammable items away
Be cautious where you place gift wrap, fabric, and other flammable objects. Keep them away from heat appliances like space heaters and radiators to prevent fires.
A malfunctioning HVAC system can spoil the fun of the Christmas holidays. Schedule a unit cleaning and inspection and enjoy Christmas time.
