Xmas HVAC Advices
Since we get deep into the holiday season, every home should be decorated by now. Xmas tree is inevitable, alongside a bunch of scented candles, garlands, colorful lights, figurines and candies of all kinds. It is the time of the year when we should put all of our worries aside, relax, and enjoy ourselves. To do so, we need to do a couple of last check-ups.
As you know, Xmas decoration is usually made of highly flammable materials that don’t go along with the HVAC system. So there are a couple of notes you should take into consideration regarding your HVAC unit.
1. Keep the Vents Clear
During the holiday season, it can be quite chilly outside. To keep your home cozy and warm, we tend to raise the thermostat a bit. Hot air that blows from vents can be truly dangerous for ornaments. Should they get close to it, they can catch fire. Also, if the decoration isn’t flammable, it’s still a problem, because it can block the airflow, which will result in a higher energy bill.
2. Do Not Cover Your Thermostat
We get the Xmas excitement but watch out not to get carried away. Sometimes people tend to exaggerate and decorate the most important parts of the HVAC system such is the thermostat. If you decorate the thermostat, it wouldn’t be able to gauge the real temperature. It’s a slippery slope. If the thermostat isn’t working properly, it can affect the furnace, which will result in higher energy costs in the end.
